Brand Legacy: SAINT JOY

SAINT JOY (Shangjiukai) was founded in Suzhou, the pioneer of modernised industrial Song Brocade. The brand traces its origin to Shangjiukan Gauze and Satin Workshop established in 1889, during the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty. Centered on inheriting and innovating Song Brocade, a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, it developed an electronic jacquard loom compliant with traditional craftsmanship in 2012, enabling the industrial production of Song Brocade.

With national-level intangible heritage inheritor Qian Xiaoping serving as its technical consultant, the brand pioneered the digital production of traditional Song Brocade while preserving the core standards of this heritage craft.
At the 2014 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, the core fabric of the new Chinese-style outfits worn by leaders of all economies was crafted by SAINT JOY. Since then, the brand has custom-made state gifts for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for ten consecutive years, standing as a cultural ambassador of Song Brocade to the world.

Phoenixes in Flight originates from “Phoenixes in flight, their wings rustling” in The Book of Songs · Greater Odes. Paired phoenixes soar side by side and rest on parasol trees, with peonies, chrysanthemums and other traditional flowers subtly integrated into the pattern. As the king of flowers, the peony symbolises prosperity and wealth; the chrysanthemum stands for nobility and longevity. Amid the lush blossoms, the phoenixes stretch gracefully, dancing across the brocade. The collection carries wishes for fulfilment and good fortune, and every motif embodies longing and blessings for a beautiful life.

Phoenixes in Flight adopts a 3-end warp-faced twill base paired with a 5-weft figured structure. The ingenious use of five-layer gold-weft weaving makes the phoenix tail feathers shimmer brilliantly amid silk threads, delivering rich, multi-layered visual effects under varying light.
